Build Professional Connections
Do you have skills or knowledge that could help immigrant women and their families establish a solid foundation for their new lives in the U.S.? As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Trainer, you can volunteer your time to lead workshops and courses on topics that provide tools for stability, integration, and workforce success and build on the rich skills and experiences participants already bring.
While most SME Trainers volunteer their time, some projects may be funded depending on available resources and alignment with program goals.
We are especially looking for SME Trainers to provide courses and workshops in areas that support our participant's goals, including:

“For [my coachee], I am someone that can listen while she is speaking English and listen only to her. She has 3 children, she works; she has a lot of responsibilities. An hour with me is an hour to herself. We talk about things I never expected we’d talk about... It's been a beautiful thing. It’s not work for me; it’s just a gift to get to know her!”
Bonny, IHP Coach

Become an IHP Coach
Coaches are matched with individuals who have a specific personal, educational, or professional goal, such as applying to college, preparing for a driver’s license test, finding a new job, or learning how to navigate a new system. Over the course of one year, our coaches partner with them, offering encouragement, accountability, and support rooted in mutual respect and shared purpose.
Coaching at IHP is relationship-based, participant-led, and volunteer-driven. Coaches are not expected to provide expert guidance, they are there to help participants troubleshoot and figure out how to move forward towards their goals.
Want to help out, but can’t commit to a regular schedule? Join our volunteer database and be part of our on-call team.
Volunteers on this list are contacted when extra hands are needed: whether it’s helping prepare food for a community event, providing childcare during a workshop, sorting donations, or pitching in with other one-time needs. There’s no ongoing commitment! Just the opportunity to lend a hand when you’re available and make a meaningful difference in the moment.

Many immigrant women and families in our community face significant barriers as they work to establish stability in Maine. Housing costs, childcare, transportation, and the challenges of finding employment in a new culture can make even the most basic items feel out of reach. At the same time, resources and safety nets are limited, leaving families to navigate difficult choices.
Donations help fill these gaps in very practical ways. Your support helps ease immediate pressures so families can focus on building long-term stability and thriving here in Maine.

Growing Together Network
When a mother and her baby leave Frances Warde to move into their own housing, we provide them with a set of essentials to help them begin the next chapter with stability and confidence. However, children grow quickly and there are always supplies that can help. Our Growing Together Network is about fostering connections for hand-me-downs to share gently used clothing, toys, and baby gear as children grow.
This network is not managed by IHP, but it provides an ongoing source of stability and support as mothers transition into new homes. By connecting directly with families at the time of departure, community members help ease the constant need for new items as children grow, while also building meaningful relationships that reinforce belonging and care. If you are interested in joining this network, reach out today.
New Basics
For many of the women and families we serve, the most basic essentials like socks and underwear are what are most needed. These items are rarely donated and cannot be reused, yet they are everyday necessities that help people feel comfortable, dignified, and prepared for work, school, or daily life. By providing brand-new basics for women and children, donors help remove a quiet but significant barrier, making sure families can focus their energy on building stability and thriving in their new lives.
Workforce Readiness
Preparing for work in a new country requires the right tools and resources to step into opportunities with confidence. At In Her Presence, we welcome donations that directly support participants in entering or advancing in the workforce.
High-need items include:
-
Technology: laptops, tablets, smartphones, headphones, or portable chargers essential for online applications, training, and communication.
-
Organization essentials: backpacks, professional tote bags, notebooks, pens, and planners that help participants stay organized.
-
Public transportation support: bus passes or gift cards that make it easier to get to interviews, classes, and jobs.
Because storage is limited, we do not accept ongoing donations of work clothing. However, we occasionally host special "Dress for Success" clothing drive days where community members can contribute gently used professional attire for preparing for interviews or new jobs.

Winter Holiday Drive
Each winter, In Her Presence brings the community together to make the season brighter for immigrant women and their families. Through our holiday drives, donors help provide food, gifts, and essentials at a time when needs are especially high. Community members, faith groups, businesses, and individuals can help by sponsoring families, donating gift cards, or contributing items requested for the season.
To ensure every family is included and their needs are met, we encourage donors to reach out with interest by early November. Once you sign up, our team will connect with you to share details and match you with a family or list, so your generosity goes exactly where it’s needed.
Make every dollar count
In addition to goods and partnerships, direct financial contributions allow us to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our community. Every dollar goes toward sustaining programs, expanding access, and creating opportunities for immigrant women and families to thrive. Your gift, whether one-time or recurring, helps us make a bigger impact every day.

Organizations have the opportunity to make a lasting impact by partnering with In Her Presence through grants, corporate giving, and in-kind contributions. These forms of support strengthen our programs, expand access for immigrant women and families, and help build a stronger, more inclusive Maine. From funding innovative initiatives to contributing resources that remove barriers for participants, every partnership is a shared investment in community wellbeing and workforce readiness. We welcome the chance to explore how your organization can get involved in supporting our mission.
Healthcare
Provider Support

IHP partners with healthcare professionals who offer compassionate, culturally responsive support to immigrant women and families. Whether providing education, consultations, health screenings, or direct services, these professionals help reduce barriers to care and support our participants in making informed, empowered decisions about their health and wellbeing.
The most established part of this work is our Doula Program, where trained birth professionals support participants through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care. We also collaborate with professionals in areas like mental health, reproductive health, nutrition, and preventative care and we’re excited to grow this work as new partnerships emerge.
Healthcare professionals are contracted as 1099 providers or may choose to volunteer their time. Each partnership is structured around the specific service, session, or education offering involved, with flexibility in design and delivery.
Whether you’re supporting one family at a time or leading a health workshop for a group, your work helps bridge critical gaps in access and trust, and brings healthcare into a setting where participants already feel seen and supported.
Networking for Immigrant Professionals
Opportunity starts with connection
Our Networking for Immigrant Professionals group creates a space where skilled immigrants can connect with peers, share experiences, and build relationships that open doors to new opportunities. While designed for our participants, the group also welcomes community members and local professionals who want to expand their own networks and learn from diverse perspectives. By bringing together immigrant talent and Maine employers, this network strengthens pathways to meaningful careers, helps address workforce needs, and builds a stronger community where diversity is recognized as a vital asset.
